The length of the baton is measured including the tips. The length of the baton should correspond to the length of the arm = from the shoulder joint to the fingertips. For beginning majorettes, it is better to choose a shorter baton, for twirlers it can be longer (for better rolls).

Don't forget the grip!!!  It is used to make the stick more visible when thrown, not to slip on a sweaty palm and, most importantly, to "rub" better during rolls. Working with a wrapped stick is much easier, especially when it comes to rolls.
